US President George W Bush has said the deaths of at least eight US soldiers in Afghanistan in recent days has hardened his resolve to destroy the al-Qaida network.

Mr Bush was speaking to students and teachers at a high school in Minnesota just hours after seven US soldiers died when two helicopters were hit by enemy fire during intense fighting in eastern Afghanistan yesterday.
