The Indian government has ordered its army into the western town of Ahmedabad after 20 people were killed during sectarian riots and a strike called by Hindu nationalists.

The strike and riots were sparked by the death of 58 Hindus in an attack on a train in the town of Godhra yesterday by Muslims angered when Hindus refused to pay food sellers.
