The Sri Lankan government and Tamil rebels have signed a permanent ceasefire as a crucial step toward end their 18 year civil war.

The government announced today that the agreement, signed by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and separatist rebels, would take effect tomorrow.
