41 killed in bus accident in Nepal

At least 41 passengers have been killed after a bus veered off a highway at night and plunged into a river, according to reports.

The state-run Radio Nepal says the bus was heading from Katmandu to the eastern town of Hile when it plunged into the Trishuli River at Chitwan.

The bus plunged about 200 feet off the highway into the river below.

Survivors were taken to the Bharatpur Hospital, a few miles from the accident site. Seven were critically injured.

Climbing down hills along the river course, rescuers struggled against the fast river current to pull bodies out of the mangled remains of the bus.
