German gunman thought to have blown up self

A sacked German who killed two people in a reprisal attack on his former employer near Munich today, is thought to have blown himself up.

The gunman also planted two pipe bombs in his old school in Freising, about 12 miles north of Munich.

The man, thought to be in his early twenties, had earlier walked into a home furnishings company in the nearby town of Eching and shot his former boss and a foreman with a ‘‘large calibre gun,’’ said police spokesman Hans-Peter Kammerer.

One man died on the spot, the other shortly afterward. Police said the company had fired the young man in the last few weeks.

After the shooting, police said the man drove to the school, where he opened fire and seriously wounded the head teacher, who later died of his injuries.

Several other people were injured at the school, police said, revising earlier statements that no one was injured there.

The school specialises in economics and business, and its students range in age from about 12 to 18.
