Ukrainian killing spree suspect takes own life

The Ukrainian immigrant who allegedly murdered six members of his family in a killing spree in the US last year hanged himself in his prison cell today.

28-year-old Nikolay Soltys was arrested following a police manhunt last August.

He had allegedly slashed his wife’s throat before killing his aunt, his uncle, their two grandchildren and then his own three-year-old son.

In November, Soltys jumped from a second-floor balcony in jail in California, breaking his foot.

The previous month, he punctured his chest with a pencil while in jail, but the authorities said he was not trying to commit suicide.
