Gun attack sparks tit-for-tat violence

Two Palestinian gunmen sprang from a car and sprayed automatic gunfire at Israelis outside a military base today, killing two women soldiers and seriously wounding five others before they were shot dead by the troops.

Hours later in apparent retaliation, Israeli warplanes dropped two bombs on the main Palestinian security installation near the Mediterranean coast in Gaza City. There was no comment from Israel and no immediate report on any injuries.
