Death toll from SA massacre rises

The death toll from a massacre in a South African township has risen.

It is now known that 11 people were shot dead and seven wounded by a gunman who then took his own life.

The rampage in the city of East London was sparked by a row between the killer and his girlfriend, she was the first victim.

It is thought some of the others killed were related to the woman, while others were passers by who were hit when the gunman opened fire indiscriminately.

Police have mounted a full-scale investigation. The townships of South Africa do have a major crime problem.
