British forces have gone to the rescue after an avalanche buried 20 cars near a tunnel leading through some of Afghanistan's highest mountains.

British forces have gone to the rescue after an avalanche buried 20 cars near a tunnel leading through some of Afghanistan's highest mountains.

The cars were buried in snow outside the Salang tunnel, about 80 miles north of Kabul, said UN spokesman Yusuf Hassan.
