The head of Afghanistan’s interim government, Hamid Karzai is to send a delegation to investigate the fighting which killed 50 people in the province of Paktia.

Speaking after a trip to the American capital and London Mr Karzai criticised the actions of the warlord his own government had appointed as governor in the region.

The violence broke out when thousands protested against the appointment of Bacha Khan whose supporters shelled the town to exert control.
