Israeli soldiers have shot and killed two suspected Palestinian militants after they detonated an explosion near a road leading to the Ganei Tal Jewish settlement.

The road was blocked for a time after a truck carrying foreign workers to their agricultural jobs in the settlement was damaged in the blast.

The incident came after the Israeli army arrested two suspected members of the Hamas militant group in Ramallah and Tulkarem for alleged involvement in anti-Israeli activities.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Jihad militant group has warned that it will carry out more attacks against Israelis after claiming responsibility for a suicide bomb attack on two Israeli secret service agents yesterday.

The two men, members of the Shin Bet security services, were injured when a Palestinian informer lured them into a trap in the Israeli town of Taibe, near the border with the West Bank.

"We will continue our jihad and operations," Islamic Jihad said in a statement.

Islamic Jihad has claimed responsibility for dozens of attacks on Israeli targets during the current Intifada (uprising), which began in September 2000.
