Heavy fighting erupts between rival Afghan warlords

Heavy fighting has erupted in south-east Afghanistan between a local tribal leader and a warlord loyal to Hamid Karzai’s interim administration.

The two sides are fighting for control of Gardez, the capital of the strategically important Paktia province.
