US man executed over 1985 murder

The US state of Oklahoma has executed its first person this year.

43-year-old John Romano, who has been on death row since 1987, was executed by lethal injection last night.

Mr Romano was sentenced to death for murdering a 52-year-old jewellery dealer in Oklahoma city in 1985.

Last year, Oklahoma executed 18 people, the largest number in any single state.
