Gun battle erupts in Kashmir

A soldier has died after Indian troops surrounded a house where militants were hiding on the outskirts of Srinagar, Kashmir.

Three militants were hiding in an old house belonging to a businessman, Ghulam Mohiudin, who lives elsewhere with his family.

Officials say the house gun fight broke out when the demand for the militants' surrender was made.

Residents, evacuated from surrounding houses, say the firing began immediately after the area was cordoned off.
