US special forces, hurling grenades, today stormed an Afghan hospital ward where injured and armed al-Qaida fighters had been holed up for almost two months vowing never to be captured alive.

US special forces, hurling grenades, today stormed an Afghan hospital ward where injured and armed al-Qaida fighters had been holed up for almost two months vowing never to be captured alive.

All but one of the gunmen, believed to have numbered five or six, were killed, said Afghan fighters loyal to Kandahar Governor Gul Agha.
