Five confirmed dead after Calcutta shooting
Five people are dead and 20 injured after a drive-by shooting at the American Centre in Calcutta.
Four gunmen on two motorbikes targeted policemen posted outside the building in the eastern Indian city.
It has been revealed that a man called police in New Delhi and said the attack had been carried out by Harkat-ul Jehad-e-Islami, a Pakistan based militant group.
No one was in the centre, which houses the consulate library and some offices.
US embassy spokesperson, Gordon Duguid, has said no Americans were hurt in the raid.
India’s powerful home minister, Lal Krishna Advani, condemned what he called a "terrorist attack" against US and Indian interests.
