German troops in Kabul warned of possible attacks
German troops in Afghanistan have been warned about possible attacks on their base in Kabul.
A spokeswoman for the German Defence Ministry said the soldiers were on their guard against possible attacks.
She added she could not give details of the threat.
According to reports, the warnings came from German and foreign intelligence services.
While no major incidents involving the stabilization force have been reported, US troops are still pursuing members of the Taliban and Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida organisation. An American soldier was killed in an ambush in eastern Afghanistan earlier this month.
Germany has pledged up to 3,900 more troops for the US-led fight against terrorism.
While none have been involved in combat missions, German planes have carried supplies toward Afghanistan and seven German navy ships are expected to pass through the Suez Canal Sunday night, en route to patrol seas off the Horn of Africa.
Germany is expected to provide between 800 and 1,000 troops to the international force, which is expected to number about 4,500 in total. The troops are charged with ensuring security under the interim Afghan government led by Hamid Karzai, which is to run the country for six months.
