Chicago airport plane crash investigation launched

An investigation is under way into a plane crash at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.

An aeroplane skidded out of control and hit a jet carrying 130 people as it was being taxied to a maintenance hangar.

Chicago police say there were no injuries and only minor damage to the aircraft.

There were 122 passengers and eight crew members on board the Continental Airlines Boeing 757 bound for Newark, according to reports.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the collision which happened at around 4.30am GMT.

Police spokesman Ozzie Rodriguez says the United Airlines Airbus A320 received clearance from the airport control tower to make a turn near the terminal area.

When it made the turn, its front end slipped sideways and it slid towards a terminal where its wing clipped the rear of the jet which was parked at a gate.
