Moderate earthquake shakes Taiwan
A moderate earthquake has shaken central Taiwan, seismologists said. No damage or injuries were immediately reported.
The 5.3-magnitude quake’s epicenter was 3 miles below the city of Miaoli, the Central Weather Bureau said. Miaoli is 63 miles south of the island’s capital Taipei.
Hundreds of earthquakes shake Taiwan each year, but most of the tremors cause little or no damage.
A 7.6-magnitude quake struck central Taiwan two years ago, killing about 2,400 people.
