State of emergency declared in Greece

A state of emergency has been declared in Greece after the heaviest snowfall in decades blanketed its ancient capital.

Hundreds of cars and passengers were trapped for nearly twenty hours along a main highway into Athens.

Athens airport is closed and hospitals are on alert as more than one hundred towns in central Greece are affected by the harsh weather.
