Argentina to devalue Peso

Argentines today braced themselves for a painful devaluation of their Peso, after President Duhalde asked congress for emergency powers to rebuild the economy’s shattered foundations.

Duhalde proposed a bill yesterday that would allow him to ease the Peso’s parity with the US dollar, reform the banking system and regulate consumer prices.
