Indian and Pakistani hand shake at south Asian Summit

The leaders of Pakistan and India have shaken hands at a South Asian Summit in Nepal.

Tensions between the two countries are running high, with their armies on war alert.

Diplomatic relations broke down between the nuclear neighbours following a suicide gun attack on the Indian Parliament.

General Pervez Musharraf, President of Pakistan, says his country strongly condemns terrorism and abhors violence.

He extended this greeting to the Indian Prime Minister, “ I would like to use this forum to extend a hand of genuine, sincere friendship to Prime Minister Vajpayee, let us together commence a journey of peace, harmony and progress in South Asia”.
