An Egyptian has been arrested at Bangkok International Airport for attempting to smuggle 16,500 Viagra pills out of Thailand.

Mogi Neer Saki, 41, was detained when Customs officers discovered the pills hidden in his luggage as he was about to board a flight for Greece.

The consignment was worth at least IR£164,000, said Manit Wittayatem, the Customs Department director-general.

Officials said Saki had been fined and deported from Thailand.

Viagra is a prescription drug designed to treat male impotence but is often sold without prescription in Bangkok. It is used recreationally by some men to enhance sex.
