Suspected Islamic militants kill 8
Suspected Islamic militants have killed eight people, including two army soldiers in Kashmir and Punjab.
Police say six Hindu civilians, including a woman, were shot and killed in an attack on a remote village on the Indian side of Kashmir overnight.
Meanwhile, two army soldiers were killed and at least five others were injured, when fire was opened on a group of soldiers in the neighbouring Punjab state.
Army sources say the soldiers were conducting their routine morning drill, when suspected militants fired at them from nearby hilltops.
Police say they believed the attackers were Islamic militants, though they have no supporting evidence.
Tens of thousands of troops have been moved to both sides of the Kashmir border since the suicide attack on the Indian Parliament in December.
