2001 deadliest year in 30 for US police

The collapse of the World Trade Centre’s twin towers made 2001 the deadliest year for US law enforcement in almost three decades.

About 230 federal, state and local officers were killed in the line of duty this year, 71 in the September 11 terrorist attacks, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
