Santa duo bring extra Christmas cheer

A couple riding a tandem and dressed in Santa costumes stunned passers-by enjoying a Christmas Day stroll by handing out cash in a British resort town.

The mystery pair gave away dozens of Christmas cards as they pedalled along Brighton’s famous promenade, each one containing a five pound note.

The charitable duo refused to reveal their true identities from behind their red and white outfits as amazed recipients prized open their envelopes.

Each card contained the simple festive message: ‘‘Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy new year’’, and the comic email address mrclausatidontbelieveinsanta.com.

One lucky passer-by who received a card was Eogan McKenna, of nearby Hove. He said: ‘‘It was a lovely Christmas thing to do. It was great. I am sure it was completely philanthropic. I have no idea who they were. The couple clearly wanted remain anonymous.

‘‘It brought a real bit of Christmas cheer and everyone was laughing.’’

The couple were seen again handing out five pound notes on Brighton seafront on Boxing Day.

Even members of a swimming club who every year take a dip in the sea at Christmas received cards from the couple, who cycled along wishing Merry Christmas to everyone.
