Israeli killed in border shooting
An Israeli soldier and has been killed and four injured in clashes on the border with Jordan, according to military officials.
The shots were fired from the Jordanian side of the border into northern Israel, near the town of Beit Shean.
Israeli troops returned fire and crossed the border to search for the gunmen, assisted by Jordanian troops.
Violent incidents in the area are few since a peace agreement between the two countries was signed in 1994.
Israeli troops also closed the border road and conducted searches on their side of the border, while Jordanian authorities said they were investigating the incident.
