Economic support promised to Afghanistan

The inauguration of Afghanistan's interim government is being welcomed by leaders throughout the world.

Hamid Karzai has been sworn in as the country's new Prime Minister at a ceremony in Kabul.

He said he wants to bring peace to Afghanistan but is under no illusions about the enormity of the job ahead.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from each of Aghanistan's provinces to represent the country as a whole.

China, India, Pakistan and Australia are welcoming the development and are promising economic support.
