Eighty UN peacekeepers have arrived in the Afghan capital, Kabul, to lead a multinational force of soldiers tasked with ensuring that the country's interim Government stays in power for six months.

A convoy of military vehicles carried the British soldiers into the city from the Bagram air base

this morning.

The convoy was delayed for several hours as it waited for Afghan dignitaries to arrive at Bagram so they could be escorted into Kabul for the installation of the new regime tomorrow.
