US newspaper claims Iraq is making banned weapons

A US newspaper has claimed that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has stepped up his biological, chemical and nuclear weapons programmes by renovating the facilities where they are manufactured.

The New York Times carried an interview with an alleged Iraqi defector, who said he worked as a civil engineer at the secret facilities.
