Yugoslav city honours Lennon
John Lennon was honoured with his own street in Serbia’s second-largest city, Novi Sad, today despite protests by elderly locals.
Members of Novi Sad’s liberal municipal government, on a campaign to modernise the city’s image, unveiled a bilingual plaque etched with the words ‘‘John Lennon Street’’ in English and Serbian at a ceremony that also marked the 21st anniversary of the former Beatles’ violent death in New York.
