US claims to have killed al-Zawahiri's family

The US Department of Defence has claimed that Osama bin Laden’s deputy , A Saudi dissident, may have been injured in a US attack near the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad.

Pentagon sources told reporters that Ayman al-Zawahiri, the leader of Egyptian Jihad, and his family were targeted by US warplanes in recent days.

Reports said al-Zawahiri’s wife and children were killed, while he himself may have been seriously injured.

This is the second time the US has killed the children and relatives of its enemies in Afghanistan.

In the first days of the attacks, a US bomb killed Mullah Mohammed Omar’s 10-year-old son after destroying the Taliban leader’s family home in Kandahar.
