Tributes for George Harrison

George Harrison, the former guitarist with the Beatles, has died in Los Angeles, a family friend revealed today.

The 58-year-old, who was suffering with lung and throat cancer and recently underwent surgery for a tumour on his brain, died at a friend’s house at around 9.30pm last night.

His wife Olivia and 24-year-old son Dhani were with him.

Harrison’s death leaves just two surviving members of the Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. John Lennon, perhaps the band’s most famous member, was shot dead by a deranged fan in 1980.

Mr Harrison’s friends and music business colleagues have paid tribute to the guitarist.

Yoko Ono, John Lennon’s widow, said he brought a bit of magic to the lives of everybody who knew him. His long-time friend, Gavin de Becker, said he died "with only one thought in mind - love one another".

Harrison, whose talent was probably the least recognised among all the Beatles’ members, wrote the classic songs Something, Here Comes the Sun and While My Guitar Weeps.
