US soldier killed in Mazar-e-Sharif

The first US soldier has been confirmed killed in action in Afghanistan.

The CIA has confirmed that an American soldier died during riots at a prison on the outskirts of Mazar-e-Sharif.

He is the first confirmed death and was among dozens killed by rioting pro-Taliban prisoners in a battle that lasted three days.

The Red Cross has been helping to remove bodies from the jail.
