US warplanes bomb compound in south-east Kandahar

US warplanes have bombed a compound south-east of Kandahar, which is believed to have contained senior Taliban and al-Qaida leaders.

The development comes as the Northern Alliance claims it has crushed an uprising by Taliban prisoners held in a fortress following the fall of Kunduz.
