No holiday for Trade Centre salvage workers

Workers will continue removing debris at the World Trade Centre site on Thanksgiving Day out of respect for the victims' families, New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has said.

Work at the site was halted on Veterans Day, which upset some relatives of the 343 firefighters killed in the September 11 attack.

About 300 construction workers have toiled around the clock at the site, along with dozens of police officers, firefighters and iron workers.

Officials estimate 40% of the 1.2 million tons of debris has been removed.

More than 3,300 people are missing at the Trade Centre.
