Moderate Albanian ahead in Kosovo exit poll
A moderate ethnic Albanian leader declared that his party swept to power in Kosovo’s elections, predicting that official results released today would give the Democratic League of Kosovo control of the Yugoslav province’s 120-seat assembly.
But exit polls from Saturday’s elections - the province’s first since UN and Nato forces drove out soldiers loyal to then-Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic in 1999 - suggested that Ibrahim Rugova fell short of the vast lead he hoped would make it possible for him to rule without forming a coalition.
