‘Crash pilots probably unaware tail broke off’ - investigator

The pilots on American Airlines Flight 587 probably did not know the tail had broken off as they desperately tried to right the doomed jetliner, a US federal investigator said today.

George Black Jr, of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), said: ‘‘They don’t have a rear-view mirror,. They have no idea they’ve lost a tail.’’
