Turbulence may have caused US air crash

Investigators in New York are examining the possibility that turbulence left in the wake of another plane may have caused Monday’s air crash in Queens, which claimed more than 260 lives.

The American Airlines plane reportedly took off less than two minutes after a jumbo jet which was heading in the same direction.

Jumbo jets leave tornado-like turbulence behind them and this may have caused the American Airlines plane to break apart mid-air and fall to the ground.
