New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani has said 225 bodies have now been recovered after an American Airlines airbus crashed into a residential area in the borough of Queens in New York.

The number of passengers on board American Airlines Flight 587 has also risen - it has emerged that there were 251 passengers on board the aircraft.

Originally it was thought there were 246 passengers on board, but there were also five infants on board, who were sitting on parents' knees.

Six to eight people on the ground are missing, according to reports and 30 people who were hurt on the ground were treated at a hospital for minor injuries, mostly smoke inhalation.
