Canada issues warrant for man linked to terror financing

Canada has issued an arrest warrant for the head of a money transfer service it's claimed helped finance terrorism.

The United States says Liban Hussein and his brother Mohamed have links to the al-Qaida network.

The brothers operate Barakaat North American Inc out of offices in Ottawa and Massachusetts.

The company was placed on a US Treasury list of companies and individuals whose assets should be frozen for allegedly financing terrorism.

Mohamed Hussein was arrested in Boston last week and faces a court hearing on Thursday.

If Liban Hussein is detained he would face extradition proceedings in Canada.

U.S. authorities say Barakaat North America received deposits of more than $3m between January and September.

Barakaat's possible involvement in terrorist activities had already been investigated by the FBI over a year ago.
