Thousands demonstrate over Afghan attacks

Thousands of people staged a peaceful demonstration in Berlin today calling for a halt to the war in Afghanistan and protesting against moves by the World Trade Organisation to free up global commerce.

About 4,000 mostly young protesters rallied in a west Berlin square before marching peacefully into the east of the city, carrying banners with slogans including ‘‘No profit, no war’’.
