Former Maltese PM says EU will erode neutrality
Former Maltese Prime Minister Kermanu Bonnici has told the national forum on Europe that it is impossible to be a member of the European Union and retain military neutrality.
Dr Bonnici said he is opposed to his country joining the EU because such a move would erode Malta’s neutrality and sovereignty. He described the EU as a "superstate" and dismissed comments by Foreign Minister Brian Cowen, who said it is possible to remain neutral as an EU member.
