Russian president Vladimir Putin has denied US suspicions that deadly smallpox or anthrax may have come from his country and that Russia had provided dangerous weapons technology to Iran.

In an interview in the Kremlin for the US ABC television network, Putin, when asked if he was concerned that either anthrax or smallpox could be bought or stolen from Russia, Putin answered: ‘‘No. I believe it would be impossible.’’
