A combination of heavy-duty bombs and more precise target information from Russia and from US special forces on the ground have helped the US hit caves and tunnels in Afghanistan identified as Taliban arms depots and command centres, according to reportes.

The bombing, which has included the use of 5,000 pound bunker-busters, came as numbers of American special forces in the country was stepped up.
