Trucker held over 'Laden' documents

A lorry driver was stopped at the border with Italy because he was carrying travel documents with the word Laden written on them.

The driver, who hasn't been named, was held at the Como-Brogeda commercial frontier while officers investigated the meaning of the word which they thought sounded suspicious.

After 10 hours they discovered it meant load in German and the whole phrase on the travel document stated the lorry was carrying a load of wine.

The lorry driver, who didn't speak Italian and was "unable to communicate with the officers" was immediately released.
