Military intelligence ‘not strong enough for ground attacks’

British and American military commanders still lack sufficient intelligence to mount ground operations inside Afghanistan, British defence sources acknowledged today.

Officials insisted that work on gathering the necessary information about the situation inside the country was ‘‘well under way’’ but admitted that more needed to be done.
