Britain to announce deployment of ground troops

The British Government is expected to announce the first major deployment of ground troops to Afghanistan.

The majority are expected to come from the 21,000 soldiers currently in the Gulf state of Oman.

US jets dropped up to 10 bombs on the Taliban front line north of the Afghan capital overnight.

Taliban officials claim seven civilians were killed in the raids. Witnesses also claim two young girls were killed when a US bomb landed on a village on the outskirts of Kabul and destroyed three houses.
