Food aid worries continue in Afghanistan

World Food Programme (WFP) spokeswoman Christiane Berthiaume has said that a suspension of the bombing in Afghanistan would not necessarily alleviate the problems faced by aid agencies.

She said there have always been problems in the country because of war and the drought.

The WFP hopes to have 30,000 tonnes of food in the country by the end of the month, compared with around 25,00 tonnes last year.

Ms Berthiaume said that they have 350 local people working inside the country - not enough to cope with demand.

Some of the staff are unable to be contacted as the Taliban have told them not to communicate with the outside world.
