Arafat launches crackdown on press freedom

Yasser Arafat’s Palestinian Authority has launched a crackdown on press freedom in an attempt to distance itself from anti-US sentiments fuelled by the ongoing attacks on Afghanistan.

Palestinian police have arrested a newspaper editor and have barred media coverage of a rally by Islamic militants to protest at the US attacks.
